Understanding Absolute Pressure Measurement and Core Sensors’ Capabilities
Absolute Pressure Transducers
Core Sensors specializes in manufacturing high-quality absolute pressure transducers with a wide range of measurement options.
What is Absolute Pressure Measurement?
Absolute pressure measurement refers to the pressure relative to a perfect vacuum (zero pressure). Unlike other pressure types, absolute pressure is measured against a fixed reference point—vacuum—making it independent of atmospheric pressure changes. For example, a reading of 15 PSIA (pounds per square inch absolute) indicates the pressure above a complete vacuum.
Comparing Absolute Pressure to Compound and Compound Sealed Gauge Pressure
| Pressure Type | Definition | Reference Point |
| Absolute Pressure | Pressure measured relative to a perfect vacuum. | Vacuum 0 pressure) |
| Barometric Pressure | Subset of absolute pressure measurement; measures barometric pressure / altitude with reference to vacuum. | Vacuum (0 pressure); calibrated with offset such as 1100 mbar to 1700 mbar absolute |
| Compound Pressure | Measures both positive and negative pressures relative to atmospheric pressure; common in compressor applications. | Atmospheric pressure (14.7 PSI at sea level) |
| Compound Sealed Gauge | Measures positive and negative pressures relative to a sealed reference point; provides additional environmental protection. | Fixed reference (not atmospheric) |
Core Sensors’ Manufacturing Capabilities
Core Sensors specializes in manufacturing high-quality absolute pressure transducers with a wide range of measurement options. Common measurement ranges include:
| 15 PSIA | 30 PSIA | 50 PSIA | 100 PSIA | 200 PSIA | 300 PSIA |
Equivalent bar ranges are also available.
These transducers are customizable with various output signals and electrical connections to meet diverse application needs. Popular combinations include 4-20mA output signals paired with M12 electrical connections, which are favored for their noise immunity and compact design. Additionally, Core Sensors offers M12 cordsets in stock, ensuring seamless integration into your system. Our MIL-DTL-26482 connector is also popular and available with mating cordsets.
