Bulk Silicon Technology for MWD/LWD/PWD
Downhole sensors are engineered and designed to operate in environments with high temperatures and high levels of shock and vibration. Core Sensors offers downhole pressure sensors up to 204°C using a specialized bulk silicon technology. Our downhole product series standardizes on high strength nickel alloy material to ensure accurate, repeatable measurements with high liquid and gas compatibility. Combined with bulk silicon strain gages, the sensing element has an extremely low operating strain, producing a stable, repeatable millivolt output. Additionally, customers can choose to order polynomial and calibration data with their downhole sensor to create an even more accurate mapping over pressure and temperature.
Downhole pressure sensors are used in various applications including Measurement While Drilling (MWD), Logging While Drilling (LWD), Pressure While Drilling (PWD), and wireline and rotary tools. By having sensors that are both accurate and stable over a wide temperature while offering a large amount of useable signal output, engineers have the ability to calibrate the sensors with less effort.

Bulk silicon piezoresistive sensor technology is a proven, trusted approach in the downhole market. Originally developed for aerospace and industrial applications, its shock and vibration tolerance and stable strain-gauge material properties made it a natural fit for downhole pressure measurement. Paired with an Inconel 718 sensing element, Core Sensors’ downhole sensors operate at temperatures to 204°C and pressures to 30,000 PSI. A 10mV/V output — higher than many competing downhole sensors — gives integrators more signal to work with and reduces the need for additional signal conditioning, all in a compact 12.7mm package.
