About the CS90
The CS90 Downhole Pressure Sensor uses a fully active four arm Wheatstone bridge and a dielectrically isolated bulk silicon sensing element based on proprietary MEMS technology. This downhole sensor was designed to withstand the high pressure, high temperature environments that are common in downhole oil & gas exploration. The compact design allows for installation in downhole tools without sacrificing space. Standard offering includes a 3/8”-24 UNF-2A with 74° cone process connection, compensated millivolt output signal, 12.7mm diameter housing, and solder hooks. CS90 downhole pressure sensors are designed using Alloy 718 material. An additional PT1000 RTD temperature output is standard for further measurement capabilities. With a variety of standard options, Core Sensors manages to be a leader in both technology and product availability.

Miniature Package – High Millivolt Output
Get More Output: The CS90 Downhole Pressure Sensor offers a typical compensated output of 10mV/V with a maximum excitation of 10VDC. This provides a large amount of usable output, simplifying signal conditioning. For legacy installations, 2.6mV/V is available. Additional output sensitivities are available upon request. Further, Core Sensors offers customers various forms of calibration data, including polynomial data, on request. The serial number-specific data can be accessed and downloaded online to simplify your installation and access. The CS90 downhole sensor also offers a repeatable, compensated zero and span output signal compared to uncompensated titanium downhole sensors.
All of these features come in a small, compact package with a typical diameter of 12.7mm. The CS90 comes standard without a hex on the front end of the sensor (near the process connection threads) to ensure fitment in drilling tools with confined spaces. A hex comes standard on the back end of the sensor (near the solder hooks) which can be used during installation.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is polynomial data?
Polynomial data refers to a set of coefficients that define a mathematical function used to model the relationship between the sensor’s output and the actual pressure it is measuring. This function is typically a polynomial equation, which is a sum of terms, each consisting of a coefficient multiplied by the sensor’s output raised to a certain power. Core Sensors offers the option to order a CS90 HP HT sensor with polynomial data. Our standard offering includes Polynomial Data from +25°C to +150°C with six (6) temperature points and five (5) pressure readings at each temperature. This data can be downloaded online by serial number.
Does Core Sensors offer titanium material for its downhole sensors?
No. Since developing the CS90 series downhole pressure sensor with Bulk Silicon Technology, Core has focused on two materials: Inconel 718 and Hastelloy C276. These materials offer excellent liquid and gas compatibility and are better sensor materials in terms of our manufacturing process, sensor accuracy/repeatability, and industry adoption.
Why does Core offer a 10mV/V output signal? Does it offer 5mV/V or 2.6mV/V?
Using bulk silicon technology, the sensing element of the CS90 series is manufactured using high output silicon strain gages. In the form of a Wheatstone bridge, the gages measure the slightest deflection of the metal diaphragm to produce a high quality, repeatable output signal. Core Sensors trims the raw output signal to 10mV/V after pressure and temperature compensation and 100% tests and inspects each sensor before shipment.
Competing technologies are not able to produce 10mV/V of signal, so the default is to offer less, such as 2.6mV/V. Core Sensors can calibrate its downhole pressure sensors to be backwards compatible with the 2.6mV/V signal or other lower level millivolt outputs.
Can CS90 downhole pressure sensors handle high shock and vibration?
Yes, CS90 pressure sensors are designed for downhole environments. While our shock and vibration spec is to industry standards, customers have lab and field tested our sensors under extreme conditions to qualify various package designs. From the sensing element to the electrical connection, Core has created a robust package. Contact us to discuss your shock and vibe requirements.
Can you explain the thread sealing method of the CS90?
CS90 pressure sensors come standard with a ⅜-24 UNF male process connection With Inconel 718 material. A sealing insert is provided with the sensor manufactured from Inconel 600, a slightly softer material with equivalent corrosion resistance. As the sensor thread is torqued in place, the front insert creates a metal-to-metal seal between the sensor and mating surface. This design minimizes the torque strain on the sensor which can create offsets in the zero reading. It also creates a robust seal for high pressure applications.

Additional inserts are available upon request. Contact our office.
Are vented downhole pressure sensors available?
Yes, the CS90 series can be designed with vent holes in the housing to allow the flow of non-conductive fluid into the housing. This is used when the downhole sensor is used to measure differential pressure between the non-conductive fluid and the process connection.
Core will work with you to determine the hole diameter, placement, and count to meet your needs.
