with the CS12 Submersible Transmitter
The CS12 Submersible Level Sensor is designed for liquid level measurement applications, commonly used for water level measurement. Functionally, the CS12 is lowered to the bottom of the measurement area (tank, body of water, etc.). The hydrostatic pressure above the transducer is converted into the linear output signal based on the water or liquid level.
Engineered with a 316L stainless steel media-isolated sensing element and a rugged 304SS housing, the CS12 functions as a highly durable hydrostatic level sensor for water tanks, agricultural reservoirs, and chemical storage. Corrosion-resistant ETFE cable jacket protects wires from degradation in industrial fluids and harsh environmental conditions. Stainless steel (316L and 304) construction and an ETFE cable jacket allows for installation in a wide variety of liquids.
Precision welds, high-strength epoxy, and a Nylon cable gland prevent liquids from entering the transducer holding an IP68 rating for submersion. A wide diameter vent tube quickly equalizes barometric pressure within the sensor body to ensure accurate level measurements.
CS12 transducers are used in non-submersible applications where flooding is a concern — it can be configured with pressure ranges above 100 PSI, ensuring continuous measurement even during flood events. Thread the process connection into the pipe or tank and run the submersible cable to the desired location. This can include on-board ships or underground utility stations and pumps.
Various output signals are available including 4-20mA loop powered for long distance transmissions and voltage outputs for low power, low current consumption. For remote monitoring networks, specify our low-power 0.5–2.5V non-ratiometric output. Operating efficiently on an unregulated 3–5VDC supply while drawing ≤3mA of current, this configuration extends battery lifespans in remote wireless telemetry units, SCADA networks, and cellular IoT data loggers.
Continuous depth monitoring for municipal water storage, agricultural reservoirs, and process tanks.

The following accessories are recommended for use with the CS12 Submersible Pressure Transducer.

Vent Tube Breather Plug
Part No. 01961-00
The vent tube breather plug is designed to be installed directly onto the vent tube of a pressure transducer. It features a GoreTex plug that is designed to keep moisture out, but permit venting of atmospheric pressure changes through the vent tube and directly to the sensor housing.

A submersible level sensor measures liquid level based on the principle of hydrostatic pressure. The pressure of the liquid on the diaphragm of the pressure sensing element inside the sensor changes as liquid level changes, enabling continuous, accurate level measurement.
No. The CS12 is commonly used in non-hazardous liquid level applications such as water. For a submersible sensor with hazardous ratings, visit our CS82 series intrinsically safe submersible pressure transducer.
Yes. The CS12 submersible can be configured without the nose cone and threaded into a process connection to measure pressure. The housing design permits the housing to survive in areas that are either submerged in water or areas prone to flooding from ships to utility stations. It is still important to run the vented cable to a dry control area with protection from humidity and submersion. Control boxes can be outfitted with desiccant or filters. Contact Core Sensors to discuss your application in detail.
Our 0.5-2.5V output signal is specifically designed to operate from low power supplies such as 3.3V. This is common in IoT applications. To learn more about the output signal and configuration, visit: Remote Telemetry / Wireless Sensors.
Submersible level sensors measure the level of vented tanks or areas open to atmosphere. Since submersible sensors are calibrated to measure relative to the barometric pressure, a vent tube allows the back side of the diaphragm to correct for barometric pressure changes. The vent tube runs through the cable directly into the housing. Core Sensors ensures the outside jacket and wire conductors are sealed from water ingress. It is also important to terminate the vent tube in a dry area with relatively low humidity. Desiccant or filters can be used to aide the venting process of the control panel or box.
Submersible level sensors have some unique advantages over other technologies including ultrasonic and radar sensors.
