Turck Minifast Electrical Connection For Class I, Division 2 Hazardous Locations
By Core Sensors | September 10, 2021
Installing pressure transducers in Class I, Division 2 hazardous locations can be a frustrating experience due to the limited electrical connection options available on the market. For Class I, Division 2 Non-Incendive installations, pressure transducers are commonly offered with a conduit connection and integral cable. While this is a tried and true installation method, connecting and routing conduit piping over the instrument cable can be cumbersome, especially when working with long lengths of cable or when a pressure transducer needs to be removed for calibration or exchanged for another transducer.
In an effort to simplify this process, Core Sensors is now offering the Turck Minifast integral connector on all Class I, Division 2 approved model families including the CS50, CS51 and CS54. The Turck Minifast allows for quick installation via a threaded connection and does not require the use of conduit. In addition to making installation simpler, the Minifast connector is a high strength, robust connection option offering a minimum IP66 rating. Please note that IP rating of the transducer will depend on the model number configuration chosen. Contact Core Sensors for more information.
Three components are required to maintain the Class I, Division 2 hazardous location certifications on Core Sensors products:
1) Core Sensors pressure transducer with a Turck Minifast electrical connection.
2) CSA Division 2 approved Turck Minifast cordset.
3) Turck Lokfast guard – This requires the use of a tool for removal and reminds the user to disconnect power before servicing.
Core Sensors is able to provide all of the above components, delivering a complete installation package!
Assembling these three components can be completed in 2 easy steps:
Both connectors on the pressure transducer and cordset feature polarization to prevent incorrect connection. Align the indentations and press together firmly.
Thread on the coupling nut until hand tight.
Lokfast guard while locked. Note the location of the locking mechanism (circled in red) and the angle of the tool.
Lokfast guard unlocked by depressing the locking mechanism. Note the new location of the locking mechanism (circled in red) and the angle of the tool.
