Vented Downhole & High Temperature Pressure Sensors
Permitting differential measurement
Vented downhole pressure sensors play a critical role in demanding industrial applications, and Core Sensors’ CS90 series offers a specialized solution that combines ruggedness with advanced measurement capabilities. The vented version of the CS90 maintains the core features of the standard model while introducing unique advantages for differential pressure measurement in extreme environments.
Robust Design for Harsh Conditions
The CS90’s welded stainless steel housing protects the sensing element and internal circuitry from damage during installation and usage. Its compact 12.7 mm (0.5″) diameter allows installation in confined downhole tools, making it ideal for oil and gas exploration.

Process connection is available in Inconel or Hastelloy material.
Vent holes are machined into the housing every 90° along the top of the housing. This enables non-conductive fluid to penetrate the housing.
Robust solder hook design ensures reliable connections under shock and vibration.
Vented Housing for Differential Pressure Measurement
Unlike traditional vented sensors that equalize atmospheric pressure, the CS90’s vent holes permit non-conductive hydraulic fluid to enter the sensor. Small diameter holes can be added to the side or back of the housing to permit the non-conductive fluid to enter the housing and thus compensate for pressure changes relative to the fluid. This design enables:
- Differential Pressure Monitoring: Measures the difference between the external environment and the hydraulic fluid, useful for applications like well integrity checks or fluid flow analysis.
- Enhanced Stability: The sealed housing prevents environmental contaminants from affecting internal components while maintaining pressure balance
Our vented housing design is also available on CS91 pressure sensors.
High-Performance Output
The sensor features a fully active Wheatstone bridge with a compensated output of 10 mV/V (or customizable options), providing a strong signal for simplified data acquisition. An integrated PT1000 RTD offers simultaneous temperature monitoring, critical for compensating thermal effects in downhole settings.
Customization and Compatibility
- Calibration Flexibility: Customers can request polynomial data or specific calibration points to match existing system requirements, ensuring seamless integration.
- Adaptable Configurations: Options include alternate output sensitivities, process connections, and hex tooling adjustments for space-constrained installations.
Applications
- Oil and Gas: Monitor downhole pressure differentials during drilling or production to prevent equipment failure.
- Hydraulic Systems: Track fluid pressure variations in real time for predictive maintenance.
- Subsea/ROV: hydraulic reservoirs and balancing systems
- Geothermal Energy: Assess reservoir conditions in high-temperature environments.
